About the Artist
Below: Margaret and other students on the Bridgehouse Art Portfolio Course.
The desire to paint full time was a dream I always had but studies, work and family meant that it was always in the background. Over the years, I had occasional artwork in galleries and have undertaken commissions drawing pastel pictures of peoples' animals.
Then, in 2015, I embarked on a painting course at Leith School of Art with a view to developing my practice and painting fulltime. This course opened a door to join three other artists in an exhibition in Peebles which was a great experience.
Over the Winter 2019 to Spring 2020, I spent two, 8-week terms at Bridgehouse Art in Ullapool on the Portfolio Course. This time was valuable to me as it allowed me to fully concentrate on my art in my own studio space and develop a personal studio practice.
Since returning from Ullapool, I have worked toward becoming a full time artist. It is incredibly hard work and requires discipline, but it is very rewarding in so many ways.
